Winterization for Wet Cold, Not Just Cold

Winterization in the Lower Mainland isn't about surviving -40°C like the BC interior. It's about handling the specific combination of persistent rain, high humidity, and occasional cold snaps that define our winter. That combination is its own kind of hard on garage doors: bottom seals swell with moisture then freeze to concrete during cold snaps, rollers rust in damp tracks, and weatherstripping that looks fine in September cracks during the first hard frost.

Our fall winterization addresses every one of these failure points before they become emergencies. We inspect and adjust spring tension, swap in moisture-resistant lubricants rated for cold wet conditions, replace cracked or rotted weatherstripping around the full perimeter, inspect and re-install bottom seals (this is where most Lower Mainland winter emergencies start), clear debris and standing water from tracks, and recalibrate opener force settings for the wet cold months ahead.

We book winterization visits from mid-October through late November. The goal is fresh seals and lubrication in place before the heavy-rain season peaks and before any cold snaps hit. Homes at higher elevations -North Shore, parts of Coquitlam, Abbotsford, Chilliwack, and especially Hope -should book earliest, since those areas see colder winters and book up fastest. A $120-$180 winterization typically prevents $400+ emergency repairs.
